Wine Country?
October 19, 2008 - My husband & I are visiting California in June & would like to do an afforable wine-tasting tour. Any suggestions for a good quality, inexpensive tour?
I live less than 1 hr from Napa valley. One problem with going to Napa is it is so expensive. Everybody charges to tasting. One place I suggest is Caymus. You will have to make an appointment a few days in advance. They take you into a room and give you a nice informative presentation. Doing a tasting with about 10 other people is a lot better than standing at a bar with 100+ people. I would avoid tour buses as they are so limited to the places they go to. It is sad some places they take people. You can do a lot better on you own (rent a car)and by talking to other people. Small operators are better as they can tailor the tour around you and your likes. You end up paying a little more, but it is worth it. If you are interested, please contact me. I have a friend in the business. You said , "inexpensive", I would suggest you choosing Sonoma over Napa. Dry Creek valley is great, and a lot to do in the town of Heldsburg. You will have a better experience here. This is a good web site for planning a trip: http://www.ewineinfo.com/ This has links to all the wineries. Have fun.
Both Sonoma and Napa are beautiful wine regions with great wines. Sonoma is less expensive. Napa wineries typically charge $5-$20 for sampling their wine. You can get wine tasting coupons for some of the wineries. These coupons usually allow 2 to taste for the price of 1 at select wineries. Learn more about this at http://www.cheers2wine.com/free-wine-tasting-coupons.html. It's very easy to plan your own wine tasting tour and drive from winery to winery. For information on the wineries in Napa (including addresses, phone numbers, and links to their websites) visit http://www.cheers2wine.com/Napa-Valley-Wine-Tour.html. For information on Sonoma go to: http://www.cheers2wine.com/sonoma-county.html Amador County in the Sierra foothills is another great option. You will find lots of wineries, wonderful wines, wineries are short distances apart, and most wine tasting is free. For highlights and suggestions on wine tasting in Amador visit: http://www.cheers2wine.com/Amador-wine-tour.html. Cheers!
one of the best places to visit for wine tasting is Napa Valley! try going to www.inetours.com and click on wine tours napa valley. Tour Itinerary 1) Meet at the Ferry Building in San Francisco 2) Travel to the Napa Valley via the Golden Gate Bridge 3) Domaine Chandon – tour and tasting 4) V. Sattui - wine tasting and picnic/deli lunch 5) Andretti Winery – wine tasting 6) Rutherford Ranch Winery - Silverado Trail, Napa Valley 7) Ferry Cruise back to SF – avoid the traffic returning to the city they says for only $92 but search around on the internet! have fun!
- If you want to taste wine you'll have much more fun by driving than taking a bus tour. You can see more smaller wineries and get out of the crowds. Sonoma is more fun for this reason, and most wineries there charge only $10 rather than $20 in Napa.
- Another way to go is California Wine tours(707-253-1300) or Napa Valley wine tour(707-224-4949). For the adventuresome try Gateway wine country bicycle tours(800-499-2453) or Napa Valley Bike tour(707-944-2953). All these companies are good, reputable companies.
- Hey Kirsten, Napa Valley is by far the best wine country that you could visit! You will definitely enjoy it! Have Fun! Make Your Own Wine http://www.howtomakecheapwine.com
- Are you going to northern or southern CA? Temecula is also known as wine country.
