What is the best way to store wine if i dont plan to drink it for a month or two?
October 16, 2008 - Planning on drinking the wine in the next month or two. Do I put it in the fridge...do i store it at room temp..or what?
- it depends on wine, but the main idea is keep it in the dark place, laying on the side, not standing... This is need to do then the cork was always in contact with wine and didn't dry up. If it dry up the air will get into the bottle and spoil the wine.
- On it's side in a cool, dark, relatively humid place. Probably not in the fridge, too much light, too much bumping. I think dark and undisturbed is more important that very cool.
Keep it in the most consistent temperature possible. However, if it is only a month or two, this is less critical. As long as it is not in the freezing cold, or extreme heat, you should be ok no matter where you leave it if it as long as it is only for a month or two. I would think that the fridge would be the most consistent temp, or in a basement. Just bring it back to drinking temperature before you drink.
I'd store it on its side, in the dark, and in a place that's cool, but not COLD. Don't know where you live, but depending on temperature, your garage or basement might be a good option, or an uninsulated closet. If it's a white wine, you can put it in the fridge for a few hours just before you plan to drink it. If it's a red, allow it to come up to room temperature. But with either, it's best to keep it cool while storing it.
- Depends on what kind of wine.....white wine you could put it in the fridge but red wine you will want to store in a cellar, basement or cupboard
